Wix vs WooCommercefor service businesses

Coaches, salons, studios, tutors and consultants sell time, not boxes. This guide compares how Wix and WooCommerce handle scheduling, payments and the website around them — and labels what’s built in, what needs a paid plan and what needs a plugin.

Recommendations here are our editorial judgement from the documented facts — not rankings, test results or scores. We haven’t tested these platforms hands-on.

Editorial guidance

The short answer

Wix includes scheduling tools such as Wix Bookings and Wix Events in the same dashboard as your site; accepting payments needs an eligible paid plan. WooCommerce handles bookings through extensions such as the paid WooCommerce Bookings extension, on a WordPress site you host and maintain.

  • WixYou want bookings, a site and payments in one place, without managing hosting.
  • WooCommerceYou need custom booking logic, already use WordPress, or want full ownership.

Scheduling

How bookings actually work

With Wix, you create services in Wix Bookings — appointments, classes or courses — and manage them from the same dashboard as your website. Selling paid bookings or event tickets requires an eligible paid plan. Wix Bookings lets you add staff members and set each person’s working hours, which determine when their appointments can be booked. That is appointment scheduling — not a full workforce-management system for payroll, shift planning or HR.

With WooCommerce, bookings are products. The WooCommerce Bookings extension turns a product into something bookable, with availability rules, pricing by period, persons and resources such as staff or rooms. Its documentation lists requirements such as recent PHP, WordPress and WooCommerce versions and a working WP Cron.

WooCommerce’s approach is flexible for unusual setups — rentals, multi-person bookings, equipment — but you assemble and maintain it. Wix’s approach is quicker to start and lives inside one platform.
